St. Cyprian's Episcopal Church Chapter of The Order of St. Luke the Physician

Welcome to Order of St Luke The Physician

St. Cyprian’s Chapter of OSL meets every Tuesday, 7:00 p.m., in Lufkin, Texas.  Many of our members are from different churches in Lufkin.  We sing, study the bible, share good reports, and pray for one another. No two Tuesdays are exactly alike, although healing takes place every week in one way or another. Our prayer model is the Lord’s Prayer, Matt. 6:9-13, “…Thy Kingdom come, Thy Will be done….” Our focus is on wholeness as the Spirit of the Lord leads us.

**Urgent Prayer Request for Father Nigel Mumford who is in Critical but stable condition in a New York Hospital on a ventilator, due to pneumonia.

Saturday 11/7/09

Fr. Nigel continues to be in critical condition but he is stable. He is still on the ventilator but he is still improving on his “numbers” on the ventilator, which measure his oxygen intake and the ability of his lungs to take over for him. The doctors are working towards a day when he will be weaned from the machine. He continues to fight something that is causing a fever.

Fr. Nigel’s doctor advised Lynn late Friday afternoon that Fr. Nigel did have the H1N1 virus during his early time at the hospital. The Department of Health notified Fr. Nigel’s doctor that he had tested positive for the virus, even though initial testing had been negative for the virus. Although he tested negative at that time, he was medicated against the virus when he first came into the hospital 29 days ago and was recovering from that when he contracted the pneumonia.

Please continue to pray for Fr. Nigel’s recovery – for healing of his lungs, for protection of his organs, for a reduction of his temperature, and that his body can clear out the remainder of the medications. “In thy good time, restore him to health, and enable him to lead the residue of his life in thy fear and to thy glory;” (BCP 458)

Please also pray for Lynn that she may have the strength and stamina and protection for this long vigil.

Thank you all for your continued prayers. From your lips to our God’s ears.

Lufkin OSL News

Our Spring Healing Conference with the Rev. Nigel Mumford was held the weekend of April 24-26, 2009, culminating a 2 year vision from the Lord.  We were delighted that Lynn Mumford accompanied her husband on this trip.  All who attended were blessed by Nigel’s quick British wit and his intense anointing and experience in the healing ministry.  He constantly pointed us to Jesus Christ the Healer and the wisdom of God, with his animated gesture, “Brilliant!”  Nigel stressed the mandate from Luke 9:2 to “...Preach the Kingdom of God and to heal the sick.”  Through God’s amazing love and grace, Nigel encouraged us to take God at His word, confident that Jesus desires us to be healed and walk in health.  We graciously thank St. Cyprian’s Episcopal church for underwriting this incredible weekend...To God be the Glory...it was BRILLIANT!

**We would like to extend a Texas welcome to The Reverend Arthur A. Callaham, the new Priest at St. Cyprian's Episcopal Church.

Prayer of the Order of St. Luke

"Almighty God, who inspired Your servant Luke the Physician to set forth in the Gospel the love and healing power of Your son: Graciously continue in Your Church the love and power to heal, to the praise and glory of Your Name, through Jesus Christ, our Lord.  Amen."

Motto and Cross of the Order of St. Luke

The motto is in Latin:

JESU ESTO MIHI JESUS - DUX - LUX - REX - LEX
Roughly translated this means: "O Jesus, be to me my Savior (Healer), my Leader, my Light, my King, and my Law." Life's greatest adventure awaits you when Jesus Christ becomes your Leader, Light, King, Law, and Savior-Healer.

According to tradition, this cross was found in the catacombs of Domitillain Rome during the second century. It is the prayer of a Roman nobleman. The story is that this Roman officer lost his wife who had been the guide and inspiration of his life. He felt the light of his life had been extinguished.

Restless and distraught, he wandered this way and that. Then he heard the Glad Tidings of the Christian Gospel and found in the catacombs this prayer inscribed on the wall. He accepted Christ and made the prayer the Rule of his life. The light of Christ shone into his life with healing and integration. He lived a long and useful life thereafter.
